I just returned from my first pilgrimage to visit the shrine of the Three Sacred Hearts in Itapiranga, Brazil. This was a life-changing experience. I consistently felt the strong presence of Heaven both around Edson Glauber Coutinho, the visionary, and the shrine.
In 1994, while a student in Manaus, Brazil, 22 year old Edson Glauber received an apparition of Mary with St. Joseph and Jesus (thus the name “Three Sacred Hearts”). The apparitions continued after he returned to his hometown of Itapiranga. Bishop Carillo Gritti declared a Decree of Worship in January, 2010 favoring the Itapiranga appearances. The apparitions, though thematically similar to the apparitions at Fatima, Portugal, that is, a call to prayer and conversion, are unique because it involves three sacred hearts. While there, I learned something from St. Joseph that clearly applies to our lives today. “… I know many of you suffer many great difficulties because, in these last times, men no longer love or help one another but live with their hearts full of pride, falsehood, lies, intrigue, ambition, backbiting, pettiness, and many wrong things that are the consequences of living far from G-d.”
I came back home determined to help the work of the Three Sacred Hearts by starting this fundraiser to purchase new transportation desperately needed for the mission there. They currently have one small Chevrolet Corsa wagon that was purchased used back in 2001. The car is about 21 years old now and has about 250,000 miles.
The family lives in Manaus which is about 6 hours away by car (one-way) to Itapiranga. Through the years, they have made many trips back and forth. You can only imagine the wear and tear currently on this 1998 Chevrolet Corsa wagon. It is a miracle that this car is still running. Unfortunately, the Corsa wagon can no longer make the long trips to Itapiranga. Alternate transportation has to be rented which is expensive when you calculate the frequency of the trips to the Shrine.
In addition to traveling to the Shrine, Edson also travels locally to prepare for upcoming pilgrimages and to help the poor by collecting clothing and food donations for them.
The activities are many. I can personally attest that Edson works exceedingly hard. Having traveled in this Chevy Corsa wagon, I can also attest to the dire need for new transportation as the vehicle is clearly on its last legs. In addition, the Corsa wagon is small and lacks space for all the donations that need to be transported to the mission.
With all the needs of the Shrine in mind, purchasing an SUV is the right choice as the mission continues to grow. After reviewing the options, we believe a new Chevrolet Tracker SUV would be ideal.
I wish I had the money to personally make this purchase right now for the mission. Unfortunately, I don’t. However, I walked away from this little piece of Heaven with my soul on fire and a desire to help the mission by inspiring others to join me in donating through crowd-funding and thus buy them the new car they so desperately require.
Although the need for new transportation is critical, Edson Glauber never complains. He is always so humble, smiling, and joyous.
I am confident that by working together, we can support the day-to-day operations of the work of the Three Sacred Hearts in Itapiranga, Brazil.
The Three Sacred Hearts will continue to expand and grow. I can attest that Heaven is truly present there. I know that God will bless us abundantly for providing this important gift to the work of the Three Sacred Hearts.
May you be blessed a thousand times more for your generous donation! To start the process, we already have $2,000 in pledges. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
In addition to a donation, you can also help by sending this funding morality link to your family and friends and through social media.
